FIFA Collect, the official digital collectibles platform of FIFA, is abandoning Algorand for its own Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchain. The migration, set to begin no earlier than May 20, requires no action from users holding soccer-themed NFTs.

The move signals FIFA’s ambition to control its Web3 infrastructure, leveraging EVM compatibility for broader interoperability. Algorand, once chosen for its scalability, now loses a high-profile partner as organizations increasingly opt for self-custodied blockchain solutions.
